In clinical applications, the unit ppm (parts per million) is used to express very small concentrations of solute, where 1 ppm is equivalent to 1 mg of solute per 1 L of solution. Calculate the concentration in ppm for each of the following solutions.

b) There is 0.65 mg caffeine in a total volume of 131 mL.

    So our concentration = 0.65 mg/0.131 L = 4.962 mg/L = 4.962 ppm

    c. 0.35 mg of trace particle in 91 dL = 9.1 L.

    So our concentration = 0.35 mg/9.1 L = 0.0385 mg/L = 0.0385 ppm
