Which assumption is not part of the kinetic-molecular theory of gases? A gas consists of particles that move randomly and rapidly. The size of gas particles is small compared to the space between the particles. Because the space between gas particles is large, gas particles exert no attractive forces on each other. The kinetic energy of gas particles does not change with increasing temperature. When gas particles collide with each other, they rebound and travel in new directions.

The kinetic energy of gas particles does not change with increasing temperature.

    Explanation:

The following postulates sum up the KMT

    1. Random motion. Gas molecules are always in continuous and random motion

    2. Volume of molecules is negligible. The combined volume of all the molecules of the gas is negligible compared to the total volume of the container of the gas

    3. Forces between molecules is negligible. Both attractive and repulsive forces are considered inconsequential

    4. Constant average kinetic energy. There is transfer of energy between molecules during collisions but if the temperature does not change, the average kinetic energy of the molecules does not change either

    5. Average kinetic energy is directly proportional to temperature. It must be noted that this refers to absolute temperature. At a given

temperature, the molecules of all gases have the same average kinetic energy.

So according to postulate number 4 and 5 "The kinetic energy of gas particles does not change with increasing temperature." is not true

The kinetic energy of gas particles does not change with increasing temperature.

    Explanation:

Kinetic molecular theory of gases was given based on assumptions that

    a) the gas molecules occupy negligible volume as compared to volume of container

    b) they move randomly here and there and show elastic collision with each other and with wall of vessel.

    c) there is negligible inter-molecular interactions present between the gas molecules.

    d) The kinetic energy of particles increases with increase in temperature

Thus out of the given statements the following is not part of theory.

The kinetic energy of gas particles does not change with increasing temperature: it do change.
