    A reaction in which heat is absorbed by reactant molecules and energy of products become more than reactants is known as an endothermic reaction.

    For example, when ice is kept at room temperature then it absorbs heat from the surroundings. As a result, molecules of ice gain kinetic energy due to which intermolecular forces between them decreases.

    Hence, solid state of ice changes into liquid state.

    Thus, we can conclude that the statement it is endothermic because heat is gained from the surroundings, correctly describes the melting process.
