Classify each of the following changes as Physical or Chemical:

(a) Condensation of steam

(b) burning of gasoline

    A change that does not bring any difference in chemical composition of a substance are known as physical changes.

    For example, dissolving sugar in water, melting of gold, condensation of steam etc are all physical changes.

    Whereas a change which causes difference in chemical composition of a substance is known as chemical change.

    For example, souring of milk, burning of gasoline etc are chemical changes.

    Therefore, we can conclude that given changes are classified as follows.

    Condensation of steam - physical change burning of gasoline - chemical change souring of milk - chemical change dissolving of sugar in water - physical change melting of gold - physical change
