    The ions that are present in solution are Ni⁺² (aq) and Cl⁻ (aq)

    Why?

    When an ionic substance like Nickel Chloride (NiCl₂) dissolves in water, it dissociates into the individual ions that form the substance. Water molecules surround then the individual ions in a process called solvation.

    It can be represented in the following chemical equation:

    NiCl₂ (s) → Ni⁺² (aq) + 2Cl⁻ (aq)
