    TiCl2

    Explanation:

Mass of the chloride of titanium = 1.31 g

    Mass of titanium = 0.528 g

    Therefore mass of chlorine = 1.31-0.528 = 0.782 g

To determine the empirical formulae of the titanium chloride, divide the mass of each element by its relative atomic mass and divide through by the lowest ratio.

    Ti - 0.528/48 = 0.011, Cl - 0.782/35.5 = 0.022

    Ti - 0.011/0.011, Cl - 0.022/0.011

    Ti - 1, Cl-2

Hence the required empirical formula is TiCl2
