Describe what happened to the concentration of ions in the urine when the PCO2 was raised?

a. Raising the carbon dioxide increases the acid potential and so the body has to get rid of H + ions in the urine. Therefore H + in the urine increased.

b. Raising the carbon dioxide decreases the acid potential and so the body has to retain H + ions in the blood. Therefore H + in the urine decreased

    Because in order to increase H + in the urine there must be a change in the acid potential, which is the way to get rid of the excess H + in the urine and this is achieved through the change to carbon dioxide, that there is an increase, if would have decreased, the H + in the urine would decrease, they keep an inverse proportion.
