    A bond formed by donating electrons from one atom to another then the bond formed is known as ionic bond.

    For example, sodium has one extra electron as its electronic configuration os 2, 8, 1 and chlorine has shortage of one electrons as chlorine's electronic configuration is 2, 8, 7.

    So, sodium will donate one electron to chlorine atom and sodium itself will become positively charged ions. Therefore, it will result in the formation of NaCl by forming an ionic bond.
