    The atomic number of S is 16.0 and its electronic configuration is: 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁴ (2,8,6). Based on the number of valence electrons in a S atom that it contains 6 electrons in the outershell. It needs 2 electrons to be completely filled in the outershell and be more stable according to octet rule. So, it will form two bonds with two hydrogen atoms that each H atom contains 1 electron. Thus, The molecular formula of hydrogen sulfide is H₂S.
