Elements have a series of ionization energies for removing the first and additional electrons from the atom. Each ionization energy increases for successive electrons being removed. Where will the largest jump in ionization energies occur for aluminum?

    Answer: Between the third and fourth ionization energies.

    Explanation:

    The ionization energy of an atom is the amount of energy required to remove an electron from the gaseous form of that atom or ion. If an element has more than one electron to be removed, it will have more than one ionization Energy (IE). The amount of energy required for a jump tends to increase with the number of jumps.
