To make a gallon of sweet tea you have to heat the water to 100.00 °C. If the pot on

the stove contains 57.2 grams of water, and the temperature at the tap is 22.7 °C,

how much heat must be absorbed by the water?

    T₁ = 22.7°C

    T2 = 100°C

    Specific heat capacity of water = 4.184J/g°C

    Heat energy (Q) = ?

    Q = MC∇T

    Q = MC (T₂ - T₁)

    Q = 57.2 * 4.184 (100 - 22.7)

    Q = 57.2 * 4.184 * 77.3

    Q = 18499.80J

    Q = 18.49kJ
