What is the pattern in the charge for elements in each group on the periodic table?

    1, + 1 charge (loses to group 17)

    2, + 2 charge

    13, + 3 charge

    14, ±4 charge (depends on if this is a metal or nonmetal (metalloids are classified by which side of the staircase))

    15, - 3 charge

    16, - 2 charge

    17, - 1 charge (gains from group one (halogens (17) and alkali metals (1) are highly reactive).

    18, no charge (noble gasses are always full with valence electrons, thus have no charge and rarely form compounds.)
