Why do atoms bond? Why do noble gases not form compounds or molecules?

    The noble gasses are the least reactive of all elements, but the heavier ones form some molecules. Helium and neon never form molecules. They have completely filled shells with no orbitals available to make covalent bonds and have very high ionization energies so that they do not form ions.

    1. Atoms form chemical bonds in order to make their outer electron shells more stable. 2. noble gases could not form compounds due to their full valence shell of electrons that rendered them very chemically stable and unreactive.
