    A fireplace poker glowing red when placed into fire constitutes a physical change. All that is happening is that (usually) iron poker is being heated and emitting light. There is no change to the chemical properties.

    It is a physical change. The red glow is caused by radiation being emitted by the hot poker as it cools.
