    Usually a bike is made of metal, and the cheapest one is iron. Downside to this is that iron (Fe) easily oxidizes (a chemical reaction) to form rust (Fe2O3).

    That is why many manufacturers now use alloys of other metals such as aluminum, magnesium and even carbon fibre.
