Why would increased levels of greenhouse gases contribute to higher temperatures on earth

    Because greenhouse gasses prevent heat which is received from the sun from being radiated out into space.

    (note the increase of these gasses is more likely caused by an increase in medium sized mammals rather that the burning of fuel due to the fact that animals not only generate heat but also one dog over its lifespan provides as much of these gasses as two suvs over their entire use)
