What are the properties, and occurrence for proteins?

    Some properties of proteins include:

    1. They are linear polymers built of single units or monomers called amino acids.

    2. They contain a wide range of functional groups which include alcohols, thiols, thioesters, carboxylic acids, carboxamides and a variety of basic groups.

    3. They can interact with each other and with other biological macromolecules to form more complex molecules.

    4. Some proteins are quite rigid whereas others display limited flexibility.

    Occurrence

    Proteins are the body's primary building blocks for muscle, bone, skin, hair and many other tissue. Over 10,000 different proteins are found in the body and they are all essential for maintaining life. Proteins make up 75% of dry body weight
