Given the balanced equation representing a reaction:

2NaCl → 2Na + Cl2

To break the bonds in NaCl, the reactant must

    2 and 3 are not possible because energy cannot be created nor destroyed. In order to break bonds, energy must be absorbed, so 1 is your answer!
