Why are mechanical mixtures are sometimes called heterogeneous mixtures?

    Mechanical mixture: When two or more different materials are mixed together but are visibly not wholly one, like sand and stones on a beach, or milk and cereal in a bowl, a mechanical mixture is created. Another name is "Heterogeneous mixture". These mixtures are without definite composition.
