    Given:

    pH = 7.2

    H₂CO₃ ↔ H⁺ + HCO₃⁻

    Ka = 4.3 x 10⁻⁷

    pH = pKa + log [HCO₃⁻ / H₂CO₃]

    log [HCO₃⁻ / H₂CO₃] = 7.2 - 6.37 = 0.83

    [HCO₃⁻ / H₂CO₃] = 10⁰.⁸³ = 6.76

    The ratio of HCO⁻³ to H₂CO₃ is 6.76 is to 1.
