Simple carbohydrates, also called simple sugars are made up of only one molecule of glucose (monosaccharides) or at he most two molecules of sugar (disaccharides).

Complex carbohydrates also known as polysaccharides consist of three or more glucose molecules joined together. Because they have longer saccharide chains, complex carbohydrates take longer to break down.

Simple carbohydrates are found in foods such as honey and table sugar while complex carbohydrates are found in foods such as whole grain, green vegetables, beans and lentils.
