How many mL of a 0.50 M NaCl solution are required to prepare 1.00 L of a 0.0050 M NaCl solution?

    1. moles NaCl = M NaCl x L NaCl = (1.0) (0.100) = 0.100 moles

    2. From 1) moles NaCl = 0.100 = g NaCl / FW = g NaCl / 58.44; g NaCl = (0.100) (58.44) = 5.84 g

    3. M = 0.50 = moles / 1; moles = 0.50.

    4. 1000 mL = 1L; moles = M x L = (0.5) (1) = 0.5

    5. moles = M NaCl x L NaCl = (0.50) (1.000) = 0.50 moles x (58.44 g NaCl / mole) = 29.22 g
