Increasing thermal energy of any substance correlates with increasing entropy and kinetic energy of the molecules allowing them to move further away because of which they can change from one state to another that is solid to liquid to gas when enough kinetic energy is obtained by the particles within such as ice metling to water to boil to form gas.
