AlCl3 + Na NaCl + Al Did Na change oxidation number?

    No, because Al has a + 3 charge and Cl has a - 1 charge so it is AlCl3. But Na has a + 1 charge and Cl still has a - 1 charge. When the element is alone then you do not write any number after it unless it is a diatomic number. Diatomic numbers are Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen, Flourine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine
