The rock in a lead ore deposit contains 84% PbS by mass. How many kilograms of rock must a mining company process to obtain 1.0 kg of Pb?

    For 84% purity mining 1000 g of ore gives 840 g of PbS

    For 1000 g of PbS we will need X g of ore

    X = 1190.47g of ore or 1.19Kg of Ore will yield 1 kg of Pb
