    A solid-state phase transformation occurs when the interface between two grains that are chemically or structurally different moves.

    A solid state transformation can be to a solid or from a solid. If something is trans forming to a solid it would me the liquid or gas froze. If it is transforming from a solid it would be the solid is melting to either a liquid or a gas.
