    The oxidation number is = + 1. We can show it like this

    The oxidation number of H = + 1

    Lets say that=

    O=-2

    Cl=X

    and now let's say that the total oxidation number = 0

    +1+X+-2=0

    X=2-1

    Oxidation number=+1
