A standard elevator in a midrise building can hold a maximum weight of about 1.5 tons assuming an average adult weight of 160pounds wht is the maximum number of adults who could safely ride the elevator?

    1.5 tons equals 3,000 pounds so just take 3,000 and divide it by 160 which equals 18 adults with average weight. Note that 3,000/160 = 18.75. So 18 average weight adults or 18 average weight adults and some other guy that weighs 120 pounds.
