Organizations do have a variety of strategies for selecting projects. Their main aim is to check if a project solves any of the necessary conditions. For instance, in an organization, one of the many necessary conditions will be to give on-time delivery of projects. The client may insist on on-time delivery, but there might be some situations due to which the project might get delayed. This has to be sorted out strategically and the organization will have to ensure if those steps align with the company's goals.

For all companies, customer satisfaction is the principal mission, and they will strive to develop and achieve strategies related to achieving 100% customer satisfaction. It is only when a client is satisfied that they will come back for other projects to get executed.

Another major mission of the necessary condition of the company is to have its profit maximized. So, before the BD team selects a particular client or a project they will have to verify the financial credentials of the client and the payment history of the client. If the client has a poor payment track record, then his project will not be selected by the company fearing the follow-up or loss of payments for the work done. So the organizations have various criteria for selecting projects that align with the mission or strategy of the company.

In the selection of IT projects this is not possible because the scope of the project may get wider and wider, once the development has begun. Even if the client has a poor payment history the organization might sometime be willing to take a risk and proceed with the project as the client would be in need of back-end support when the project goes live.
