    Answer and Explanation:

The term Coefficient of Performance abbreviated as COP can be defined both for heating and cooling cycle systems.

It can be defined as the ratio of useful cooling or heating of a system in a cycle to the work done. In heating cyclic systems, it can be defined as the ratio of the useful heat generated to the net work done in a cyclic system so is the case for COP in the cooling cyclic system which replaces heating by cooling in the ratio.

For heating, the ratio is usually more than 1 for heat pumps. This is because it supplies additional heat from heat pump to the required areas. The Coefficient of Performance depends highly on the conditions of operation and if the COP has higher value the operating cost would be less.
