A need you cannot live without. Things that are considered to be needs include food, water, clothing, shelter, and other necessaries such as taxes, utilities and medications.

Wants, however, you don't necessarily need. These include recreational items, vacations, and anything that is not absolutely needed to survive.

A want is something that someone had the desire for, but doesn't necessarily need. A need however is something that the person may not have a desire for, but is very important.
