    1. Having an overabundance of information to draw from

    2. Being able to answer the question in one or two words

    3. Using one aspect of the prompt for your focus

    4. Choosing something that you’re interested in researching

    Let's dissect each choice.

    Why not 1 and 2?

Overabundance of information tends to lose you right on the track. From having too much information to draw from, your focus disappears and causes you confusion. Research is narrowed, focused. You only get relevant information.

You can't answer a research question in one or two words. Research needs in-depth qualitative and quantitative interpretations. You need to provide statistics, cite relevant sources, and prove your research hypotheses with concrete information.

Therefore, the two important factors are 3 and 4.

In research we choose one aspect to focus from to see clearly the question that needs to be answered. Specificity is the key for effective research.

By having interest in what you are researching, you feel motivated to gather information, indulge yourself in relevant researches because they contain a different angle of your interest. What happens when you are not curious of your research is you can't feel the motivation and urge to find the answers of your research.
