Maycomb is a small southern town secluded off the modernizing world. The infrastructure, people, and culture are all described as slow moving and drab to signify that they are stuck in believing past stereotypes. Just like the town, the people are stuck in the past still practicing segregation and racism. Although the characters try to stray from the racist confines of Maycomb they remain judgemental in order to be included
