The first irony is in the name of the Prince. Prospero means being prosperous and successful, but Prince is the one who dies first in the castle. Also, he is one who follows the masked figure to stab him with the knife but is struck by the plague itself and he dies. The prince and his friends were enjoying inside the locked castle thinking they have escaped from death, but they couldn't be saved from their fate.
