Doctor Faustus novel explains the inner war between his soul and his desire to become powerful. However, he proved himself a petty trickster because he never hold himself from going froward into the world of magic.

    Explanation:

Faustus was a brilliant scholar from Germany whose ambition of acquiring wealth and power led him to pay a huge price. He gave his soul to Lucifer and in exchange got supernatural powers to achieve his dreams. He never embarked upon his dark path completely but did not find the courage to leave his ambitions of power. Hence, after twenty four years of exercising magic, he finally dreaded his end towards hell.
