When we were peer reviewing in class, someone said I had to change " some learning is instant" to "some learning are instant." Is the change correct or should I leave the sentence as is.

Leave the sentence as is.

Explanation:

The word "learning" is not plural. If you were writing a sentence that said something like "some families are ... " you would use are because "families" is the plural form of "family." Learning does not have a plural usage in standard English.
