Which is correct, and why?

B. The phone was ringing while I was having a path

    Correct letter A. Sounds more efficient than the letter B also it's used in past tense

    Mean while B uses a present tense (ringing) for a sentence which is past tensed, which makes no sense and is absolute non sense.
