Why would admitting to adultery mean admitting to a lesser crime than witchcraft in the crucible

    Answer: In The Crucible, the crime of witchcraft was worse. A witch was considered an ally or agent of the devil, and an enemy of God and the church. Witches we're hanged. Adultry was not punushed by death. It just ruined the person's reputation.
