Compare and contrast the relationships of Soraya and Amir and their fathers. How have their upbringings contributed to these relationships?

    In "The Kite Runner," by Khaled Hosseini, Soraya and Amir have similar relationships with their fathers because their fathers are ashamed of them and do not appreciate them. For instance, Baba is embarrased of Amir and usually threatens him because he believes that his son is weak and easily intimidated. Similarly, Soraya's father is mortified by his daughter's flight with her boyfriend, which makes her unnacceptable for marriage. Thus both Soraya and Amir have been negatively influenced emotionally by their father figures.
