Athens agrees to pay the tribute.

Young people participate in a lottery.

    Theseus fights the Minotaur.

    Explanation:

Cruel Tribute was written by James Baldwin and refers to Greek mythology. It is a story about King Minos who wanted to destroy Athens unless they agree to pay him human tribute. They had no other choice than to accept.

Lottery was an event that all the youth was afraid of because they can be chosen to go to Crete to be sacrificed to Minotaur.

Theseus, although his father, kind Aegeus, did not agree, volunteered to go to Crete. There he smuggled a sword and killed Minotaur which was not expected which resulted in him being a hero.
