How has the United States attempted to defend human rights for all people

    The U. S. considers human rights to be "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", and all of those aspects were defended in the original Bill of Rights and in the rest of the Amendments to the Constitution. You could even argue that they defended the right to liberty with the Declaration of Independence.
