    Example: When you can't comprehend something you'd ask them to throw light one their statement or question.

    (The person before me explained it better).

    To "throw light on" something is to clarify or explain it. For example by answering your question I am shedding or throwing light onto your confusion. Confusion can be seen as darkness and the answer is the light.
