    The writer of the Espistle to the Romans, in this chapter 6, verse 6, is refering to the historical event of the Crucifixtion of Jesus Christ, which was an act of intercession/atonement for mankind's sake. By saying "our old man was crucified" he is alluding to the symbolic death of carnal body in order to give way to the new creature in likeness of Jesus's resurrected eternal body.
