    Explanation:

    The American expansion in the Pacific and Caribbean (1867-1917) was a clear continuation of the expansionism that started in the early nineteenth-century with the opening of the continent. There was military action in México (1914-16); US protectorates in Panama, Haíti & the Dominican Republic (1903-1915); US possession of Hawaí, Samoa, Midway & Puerto Rico (1867-1917) and even remote Venezuela was under the spell of US influence (1895).
