Clarissa Dalloway's main objective is to prepare and host a party.

This party has a social aspiration but it also serves as the coping mechanism for the protagonist. It is her escape from everyday life and troubles, and she doesn't let anything ruin it.

This is probably the best seen when the news of her friend's death, Septimus, break during the party itself. While Clarissa must be shaken, she doesn't let it ruin her party and she doesn't let her feelings show.

The clearest evidence of how important hosting a party is to Clarissa is the simple line from the book which clearly says "All was for the party."
