1 Read the following

Read the following passage which has been written mostly in simple

sentences.

John went shopping. He bought a

newspaper at the newsagents.

Then he went to the supermarket.

He bought some bread and some

butter. Then he chose some chicken

and chips. These were for his evening

meal. He thought he would also like

something sweet. He could not decide

what to choose. He thought about a

fruit pie. He also wondered about

some fresh fruit. He was yery

undecided. He chose some

strawberries. That was everything,

He went home.

2 Rewrite the passage using only a mixture of simple and co-ordinated

sentences.

    John went shopping, he bought a newspaper at the newsagents. Then he chose skme chicken and chips: these were for his evening meal; but he thought he would also like something sweet and he could not decide what to choose. He thought about a fruit pie and he also wondered about some fresh fruit but he was very undecided. He chose some strawberries:that was everything, so he went home.
