What is the purpose of this passage?

H. G. Wells was a scientist and a writer. He used his

knowledge of science to create realistic works of fiction

that fascinated readers. His novel The War of the Worlds

gained fame when it was adapted for radio.

    The purpose of this passage was to inform readers about H. G Wells' writing. The reason why is because it is talking about H. G Wells, not to entertain with a story about him, there's not a story about him, just facts about his life in the passage, so it's not the first option. It's not an excerpt of a novel, so it's not the third option, and it's not persuading readers to read science fiction. If it was, the whole of the paragraph would be more focused on science fiction, not H. G. Wells
