    Explanation:

    The women were required to wear a veil every day regardless the heat, no makeup what so ever. They should remain invisible, like they were not there.

    The socks are a representation of how they were supposed to live. They were expected to live sheltered, without any sort of happiness. They were not allowed to talk, have fun, otherwise they would be arrested.

    It was a really controlled society, without room for differences and individuality. Everybody should dress, act and behave the same.
