Irony is presented in the story "My life as a bat" by the author Margaret Atwood as a comparison of the human behaviors in a humorous way.

    Explanation:

The author first mentions, that in the past life, she was a bat. She believes that the idea of reincarnation has to do with punishments or rewards according to the case. In this way she explains how bats and human beings can be compared ironically:

"Bats have a few things they put up with, but they do not inflict. When they kill, they kill without mercy, but without hate. They are immune from the curse of pity. They never gloat"

Even Though, there is a huge difference regarding the physical characteristics between humans and Bats; there are lots of similarities in their behavior. The natural and savage way in which bats act according to their innate behavior can be also reflected in the "evolution" of the human beings, which is a real irony if the evolution of the human race is considered for such kind of actions like killing for example.
