    1. Mr. Julian Rivers was a wealthy man but yet he was facing racism at his job which was not good and he was talking about racism with boys. After Manny's death, he decided to step down from his work position. His company was interested only about white wealthy people and it was understandable for the readers that he will do something like that since Manny is killed by a racist white officer.

    2. Mr. Julian was talking with boys about the discrimination at work and racism. Although he is facing racism at the work, he is trying to encourage the boys by giving them the advice to stop thinking about other people and to focus on themselves. He is telling them "Try not to let it stop you from doing your best" which is showing that he wanted for them to focus on their success and not on racism.
